VERWANDLUNGEN – Creative Encounters in Urban Space

Since 2023, the project VERWANDLUNGEN (TRANSFORMATIONS) has invited children and young people in Berlin’s Wedding district to express themselves artistically, reflect on their realities, and explore new perspectives on education, identity, and community life. Through interdisciplinary workshops – ranging from dance and theatre to media work, cooking, and gardening – the project creates spaces for encounters, participation, and creative empowerment. Particular focus is placed on young people with migration or refugee experience, growing up in socially disadvantaged contexts. The project activities are based on their experiences, interests, and questions – using participatory methods that combine artistic practice with political education. The aim is to strengthen self-efficacy, enable new forms of expression, and support educational pathways.

VERWANDLUNGEN is part of the nationwide programme “Künste öffnen Welten” (Arts Open Worlds) by the BKJ – Federal Association for Cultural Education for Children and Young People. It is funded by the Federal Ministry for Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth as part of the programme “Kultur macht stark – Alliances for Education”.

Upcoming Public Event: DemokratieLAB in the Kiez – Youth Shapes the Future

As part of Berlin’s Democracy Month 2025, we invite you to the DemokratieLAB in the Kiez – a public action day where young people make their perspectives on democracy, coexistence, and education visible. In workshops, interviews, and a pop-up exhibition, they present their work and engage in dialogue with neighbours, politicians, and educational institutions. Everyone is warmly invited to participate, listen, and join the conversation!
