Key Questions (Election Check) of the Initiative “Strengthening Cultural Education!”

15.4.2026

1. Topic: Strengthening and expanding structures and programmes

Only by maintaining and strengthening proven structures can existing and emerging cultural education programmes continue to contribute to an open, inclusive, and vibrant urban society in which children and young people have access to cultural education.

Cultural education plays a key role in promoting diversity, multimodal learning approaches, and holistic education. It also acts as a bridge between institutions in the fields of education and culture and fulfills essential cross-sectoral functions outlined in the framework concept of cultural education.

→ How will you contribute to stabilizing and expanding cultural education programmes and their diverse offerings in their current form? How will you ensure reliable and long-term funding as well as binding funding standards?

→ Do you support the use of the reformed funding law to enable multi-year, sustainable funding for cultural education and the transition of successful projects into regular funding structures?

2. Topic: Berlin Round Table on Cultural Education (BeRuTiKuBi)

Since October 2024, the initiative has convened the Berlin Round Table on Cultural Education in schools and kindergartens. It has become clear that cross-departmental exchange between the Senate administration, policymakers, and practitioners is essential in order to share knowledge, bundle challenges, and develop joint strategies.

→ Will you support the continuation of this process and provide resources for it? In what way will you contribute to this forum for exchange and professional guidance?

→ To what extent will you incorporate the recommendations of the Round Table into your political agenda? (https://inkubi.berlin/kategorie/empfehlung/)

3. Topic: Professional development for educators and cultural practitioners

A key recommendation is to expand qualification and professionalization opportunities for educators and cultural practitioners working in cultural education.

Goals:

→ What are your plans for the professionalization of staff in cultural education?

→ How will you support the creation of a central place for training and qualification? What role will institutions like BLIQ and SFBB play?

4. Topic: Legal entitlement

The initiative calls for a legal right to cultural education for all young people in Berlin.

→ How will you structurally anchor cultural education in schools and kindergartens?

→ How will you support independent providers in this process?

→ How will you ensure that educational authorities integrate cultural education into their supervision?
